We've heard the rumors of the new name of the OKC AHL franchise - what's your favorite? And worst...

I like Barons, hate Oil Kings. Mainly for the reason that Edmonton owns a junior team named Oil Kings. What, they going to save on stationary?

I also like the Barons. Just wonder what the mascot would be for that?

This would be epic. If only the team could wear tuxedo jerseys.

I think everybody is focusing too much on relating the name to the sate. Oil = boring so lets not name our team after some slimy mess. Weather = semi cool but already used by the thunder. Native Americans = some really cool names associated with that but we cant be politically correct if we do that. SO whats left? Only un-related bad ass names. Another thing that bothers me is with the thunder they tried to associate the colors of our flag into the colors of the team which ended up in the worst color scheme...only second to Braum's. I just want some cool jerseys with good colors and not a ridiculously stupid name. :)

Welcome to site - I agree. There are some stupid names in the AHL so I hope they don't follow. We'll see... :)

Does anyone know if there is a set date that they will annouce it by? I heard on the radio that the state was taking votes on possible names? Anybody heard that too?

I know they stopped taking suggestions on possible names a few weeks ago. The team homepage had a suggestion page a while back. Makes me wonder how much the public vote will even matter... maybe the Oilers org is just planning everything. Who knows...
Wish they'd hurry. Maybe they're waiting for the current AHL season to finish.

Well, the Oilers in Oklahoma belong to Tulsa... I prefer Barons over Oil Kings or Oil Barons too. At least with the Barons they can bring back the old English B... Barons would be original, nobody else I am aware of uses Barons...
Frankly, any name will do, as long as they have a name soon. Its been my experience when the fans pick a name they do no better than what an owner would choose. Between college and professional sports just about every name from animals to weather conditions have already been used. I am sure whatever name they choose, more than half won't like it....

Agree. There are some people who won't like it no matter what name we have. I'm more worried about quality hockey.

The Barons name reveal is a hoax, guarenteed. Prodigal has about 6 differnent domain names to protect their interests.
Well you better get used to the name, cause Oilfieldhockey.com has posted the logos of the OKC Barons.

Yes, I saw that this morning. I am really not too worried about the name myself. Just excited for some hockey!

I stole the image and put it on a new thread. NewsOK.com had an article today also mentioning the Barons.

CURRENT PRESS RELEASES...
PRESS CONFERENCE TO ANNOUNCE TEAM NAME SCHEDULED
Prodigal LLC has scheduled a press conference for May 19 at 4 p.m. in the northeast lobby of the Cox Convention Center.
The topic of the press conference will be the official presentation of the name, logo, color and jerseys for Oklahoma City’s newest hockey team.
Oklahoma City’s newest hockey team will be the American Hockey League affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers. The team will play its games at the newly renovated Cox Convention Center beginning in October 2010. The American Hockey League is the primary developmental league for the National Hockey League. Over 85 percent of the players in the NHL have played at the AHL level.
I'd be shocked if it's not Barons, but it'll be interesting what the uni's will look like.
Brett

Yeah I might go just to see the uni's. I think I'll be downtown anyway so I might run over.

Most of them are yes. I'm trying to remember if the OKC Thunder one was open to the public.
I have been told that fans are welcome and ENCOURAGED to come to the press conference.
