Mike Modano says he's going to be a Red Wing....

Modano will make his Red Wings debut at 2:30 PM on Friday, August 6th when the Red Wings hold a press conference for #90 at Joe Louis Arena, agreed to an one-year deal, believed to be worth around $1.25 million according to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press.

I think this will be good news for the Wings. Although Madano has lost a step or two his veteran leadership goes a long way.

After the trades and free agency lineup changes so far it looks like the Western conference is going to be even more competitive than it was last year. At least in Vancouver, Detroit, San Jose, and Chicago. Although, I don't know how well Turco is going to do as a Blackhawk. He's another Huet, extremely talented but mentally weak. Colorado and St. Louis might surprise some people this year, too.

I still can't believe the Stars did not resign Modano. Ironically, the Stars home opener is against Detroit, so he will be back in Dallas on Oct. 14th. I'm no fan of the Red Wings, but I will have to watch the Red Wings games on Center Ice as well as my Stars. When Turco is on his game, he is nearly perfect. The problem is he is either on his game or so off that even I could score on him, there is no in between. But I think he'll be all right in a new situation and a new team.
