I just found this site and its great. I was wondering if there's an adult beginners league or some sort of beginners program either at Blazers or Artic edge? My son has recently started playing and I'd like to get into it as well. I've always watched and living in upstate NY before entering the military, Ive always wanted to play but never did. Hopefully trying to learn at almost 30 isnt too late to start.I skate about three times a week with my boy but Im still far from being great. I was reading some other posts and saw that a league recently started, is it only for experienced players? If so, does anybody have any suggestions on where to begin learning? Thanks a lot

Div 4 is the lowest level. There are a lot of people with poor skating skills there. There are also guys who have been skating forever and shouldnt be down there. There is also a team whose captains that take the league way to serious. I think this covers all lower level hockey leagues every where. I know the team Biohazard is looking for a few skaters. The only way to learn is to get out there and play. Call Blazers Ice Centre and ask for Larry. Tell him you want to start playing and he will help you out.

This is exactly my story!! Except I am already 35...is it too late to start? What about up in Edmond, rather than down at the Blazers arena?

Never too late. A few guys in our beer league were over 40. I am no longer in MN but I'll message those guys you are looking!

Get out and do a lot of Stick & Puck. When you can skate, turn, stop, throw a pass, and catch a pass, then you'll be ready for Pickup/Drop-In Hockey. When you get in the flow of those games, you'll be ready for the league play. It may take a few yrs, but I know several guys that couldn't stand up 2 yrs ago that now play in the league and just keep getting better. Lots of us are over 40, but then most of us started playing as kids. Don't give up if it doesn't come quickly, it won't but if you get out 2-3x week for 6 months or more, you'll definitely improve.
