Detroit Red Wings' forward Kirk Maltby is retiring. Detroit general manager Ken Holland says that Maltby will announce his retirement Tuesday at a 5:30 p.m. press conference. Maltby, 37, played 14 seasons with the Red Wings, mostly as a key member of the team's "Grind Line" that shut down opposing scorers and helped the Wings win four Stanley Cups while he was in Detroit.

Sad day...two thirds of the Grind Line are gone now. By my count, there's just Osgood, Knuble, Draper, Lidstrom, and Holmstrom still in the NHL from the '96 champs. Kozlov and Fedorov are playing in the KHL.
